Never a Doubt About It! Samford Demolishes ETSU 5-0

Outside of the first 10 or so minutes, the match was controlled almost entirely by Samford as they defeated the ETSU Buccaneers 5-0 in front of a large crowd on the first day of Daylight Savings Time. Samford improves to (2-1-1, 2-0-1 SoCon) on the season.
Samford's defense continued its suffocating ways, allowing only one shot on the day when a Midfielder for the Bucs ripped a shot from outside the box which was saved easily by Morgan McAslan. ETSU would not get another shot off for the rest of the match.
Senior Defender Lexi Orman opened the scoring with an absolutely BEAUTIFUL shot, crossing the ball from outside the box on the near sideline, over the leaping Buccaneer net minder, and off the far post, settling into the near side of the net. This goalazo (Spanish for "amazing goal) gets Orman off the "Goose-Egg List" and is her fourth goal in her career as a Bulldog.
Alex Bice doubled the Bulldog lead with her 2nd goal in as many games with under 10 minutes remaining in the first half, slotting an Audrey Kleiman thru ball into the bottom right area of the net. 2-0 Bulldogs
After intermission, the Bulldogs scored 3 times in just over 6 minutes to reach the final score of 5-0.
For the first time this season, a set play worked to perfection for the Bulldogs as Ella Simpson found the back of the net for the second time off the corner kick from Alyssa Frazier. 3-0 Bulldogs
Just 1 minute and 42 seconds later, Taylor Yount punished a Buccaneer mistake with her third goal of young season. 4-0 Bulldogs
Not to be outdone, Senior Caroline Orman sent home her first goal of the season from the penalty shot after being taken down in the box after just 2 minutes and 27 seconds from Yount's 3rd goal of the year. The score remained at 5-0 for the next 25 minutes when the final horn sounded.
Resident Canadian Morgan McAlasan started in goal and faced only the one shot early in the game. Her day was officially ended in the 71st minute as Sophomore backup Goalie Alex Bicknell oversaw the final 19 minutes and ensured the pair secured a clean sheet.
The Bulldogs will spend next weekend in South Carolina as they travel to Wofford for Friday's matchup and then will travel 45 minutes West to the campus of Furman for Sunday's battle. Samford will be back at home in 2 weeks as they play host to Mercer and The Citadel on the first Friday and Sunday of April.

Paladins no match for Conference-Leading Bulldogs

Samford (10-1) cruised to a match sweep in the Bulldogs' first home match since February 15th with the Bulldogs defeating the Furman Paladins (4-7) 3 sets to none and winning the sets 25-12, 25-13, and 25-20. Sunday's win increased Samford's winning streak up to 9. Samford now owns a full game lead over Mercer for the top spot of the Conference. This is noteworthy as the top seed of the tournament hosts the entire event.
Lauren Deaton tallied 13 kills on the day, nearly doubling up Furman's leader in that category. Sierra Rayzor had the second most kills on the day with 8 kills of her own on the day.

The pair traded positions for service aces with Rayzor leading both squads with two on the day and Deaton adding on one of her own. Rayzor also posted a career high number of blocks on the day with seven.
Corinne Meglic returned to the court today, racking up 24 assists in three sets and leading both teams in the statistical category.
The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow against the same Paladins of Furman with the match scheduled to start at 6pm.

Strong 1st Inning Leads Southern Illinois Past Samford 3-0

Today was just not Abby Swaney's day (L, 4-4) as she only lasted a third of an inning while allowing 3 runs on 3 walks and a hit. A double steal gave Southern Illinois their first run of the game and then the sole hit given up by Swaney followed, driving in the 2nd and 3rd runs. Lefty Taylor DeCelles went the rest of the way for Samford, tossing 6 and two thirds innings, allowing only 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4 Salukis.
Five Bulldogs tallied hits on the day with Timberlyn Shurbutt collecting a team leading 2. This brings her season total up to 20 base hits and brings her batting average up to a solid .313 and a .547 slugging percentage. Mekhi Mayfield was the only Bulldog to reach base with a walk.
