Softball

Taylor DeCelles (W, 2-7) went out and shoved just like she did during last night's game and was finally rewarded for her quality pitching. Decelles started and was relieved after getting the first out of the 6th, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 Paladins. Emily Barnett (S, 3) came in and got the final 5 outs, shutting down the visitors and getting two Ks to bring her season total up to 64.

Whitney Hinton continues to dominate, going 1-2 on the day, picking up 2 RBIs with a single in the 2nd inning. With the RBIs, Hinton claims a second Samford career record as she has now racked up 134 RBIs in her time wearing the Red and Blue. Kathryn Jackson also used her one hit for the day economically, as she hit a towering fly ball over the Blue Monster for her first home run of the season. Ryan Brzozoski broke open the scoring for the Bulldogs in the team's first turn at bat, bringing home Timberlyn Shurbutt with a perfectly placed hit to right field.

The Bulldogs will be back in action with two midweek matchups. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs will host the makeup game against Mississippi State with the first pitch scheduled for 6pm. Samford will then travel to Jacksonville State for a single game against the Gamecocks on Thursday. Samford does not have a SoCon series scheduled for this weekend.

Baseball

After a close Game 1 and a blowout Game 2, Samford completed the sweep of The Citadel with an 8-4 victory. With Sunday's win, Samford extends its win streak out to 8.

Zach Hester (ND, 1-2) got the start and lasted only 2 innings, allowing 3 earned runs (4 crossed the plate) on 5 hits and a walk and tacking on 2 punch outs. Hamp Skinner (W, 3-0) lasted a season long 5 and 2/3s innings, shutting out the visiting Bulldogs while allowing 5 hits and striking out 7. Carson Cupo got the final out of the 8th, getting the lone batter he faced to ground out the Third. In the 9th, the SoCon's Save leader Chase Isbell kept the visitors off the scoreboard, allowing one hit and striking out 1. You can read Chase Isbell's reaction to the series sweep here.

Despite collecting only 5 hits, Samford was patient at the plate, drawing 8 walks while only being forced to grab some pine twice. Tyler McManus (who should be this week's Offensive Player of the Week) and Kaden Dreier led the Samford offense as McManus collected 3 RBIs while going 2-3 with 2 walks while Dreier drove in 2 more teammates after going 2-4 with the team's only extra base hit: a double down the left field line that drove in the final run of the game. After getting plunked to start the game, Max Pinto swiped 2nd and is now tied for first in the league with 14 bags, being caught only 3 times this season. Hashtag speed kills.

Samford will be put to the test as they travel to the University of Alabama- Tuscaloosa and take on one of the hottest teams in the SEC. Tuesday's game (6pm first pitch on ESPN+) will kick off a 5 game road swing with Alabama (1 game) WCU (3 games) and Auburn (1 game) before returning home for a weekend series against the Mercer Bears (April 23rd-24th).

Soccer

After the Furman-Chattanooga game was rained out on Saturday, the Bulldogs learned that they would be hosting the Furman Paladins. Currently, the championship match is scheduled for Friday the 16th with kickoff coming just after 3pm.
