Confidence Builder for Samford Baseball

Since this season has started, Samford has been struggling to play clean baseball and have lots of hits in the same game. Today's 16-8 victory over Toledo was a game changer for those players who have been struggling at the plate. Samford pound Toledo's pitchers throughout the series, tallying 10 hits in Game 1 on Friday (W, 9-4), 5 hits on Saturday (L, 3-14), and 12 hits on Sunday (W, 16-8). Hopefully this is a new start for the Samford Bulldogs and they keep the energy up that has been lacking throughout the Florida series and the past few midweek series against Alabama State (L, 9-11) and Jacksonville State (W 10-9). If the bats get going and stay alive with SoCon play coming up, the it will be a great year. In the locker room after the embarrassing loss on Saturday tp Toledo, Coach Dunn had a couple of words for his team. While I won't go into every detail as a lot of what Coach Dunn said was personal, he challenged us by saying (and I'm paraphrasing here), "We have to fix what we're doing or this result will become really common." Most of us thought that we would just get chewed out for the next half hour or so, but he moved on to making us believe in ourselves and the guys to the right and left of us and, while not being on the same level as the Miracle on Ice speech, the result speaks for itself.

Conference play stats in a couple of weeks and if the bats stay alive, then the SoCon opponents are in trouble. This next week will be a challenge for the Bulldogs. Tuesday we travel to Troy and then travel to Montgomery the next day to have a rematch with Alabama State. The real challenge will be the long drive to Texas A&M and go up against a very good Aggie squad. The question we face now is "Will the confidence and momentum from this game cary over?"
